Still Cobra has not arrived

I expect it on Tues. or Wend. I am looking so forward to it I dreamt about it last week. I dreamt that when I got it, it wasn't working properly and I couldn't watch the entire thing. That I couldn't get to the end. I was so frustrated, I woke up frustrated. But this plight of getting all the movies and information on Rudy, has at times been so very frustrating. I can't go into any store that I can think of to pick up Rudy items, which I find so ridiculous. I can pick up all kinds of cheesy crappy movies of the day but silent movies (other than the library) have proven to be scarce in retail outlets. I have ran across the Fatty Arbuckle collection and the like but for the most part it has been the saving grace of the internet that has brought more of Rudy's movies and information (wonderful pictures) to me.

Cobra MIA

The VHS I ordered from MOVIESUNLIMITED never arrived. I was so looking forward to watching that movie last weekend. Last Friday I saw the DVD up at ebay. I didn't know what to do. I rather have the DVD but the VHS was on the way and I couldn't really afford at the time to buy both (not without feeling somewhat guilty). I decided to wait for the VHS (thinking it would for certain show up in Saturday's mail), knowing if I ordered the ebay DVD and the VHS got here first, I would have torn it open in a second to watch Rudy! But it didn't show up and then on Monday I checked ebay and the DVD Cobra was gone. But then I checked ebay on Tuesday (always being on the look out for Rudy items (esp. new photos that I can take a look at and I have found many new ones there) and saw that the Cobra DVD was back! I called Moviesunlimited talked to the nicest raspy voiced lady who canceled the order and then I ordered the DVD. So, I should have the DVD within a week. I really need some new Rudy material. I was without Internet access (at home and I rarely "play" at work anymore) and that was difficult. The internet is really good to us Rudy fans. I was thinking about this last night, that maybe the interest in Rudy will grow again, now that there is so much fresh material so easily accessible out there about him.

When I first heard of Rudolph Valentino, it was in the same breath that women killed themselves over him when he died. It was in my early teens I believe and I remember thinking what kind of person could make another person (who they have never met before kill themselves over). It seemed so occult and bewitching, like a spell, like something out of a fairy tale. I was intrigued then. Who knew so many years later in my life I would finally understand and grasp the nature of such an entity as Rudolph Valentino. And even now as I write this I try to take in account what it is about him that was so powerful ---- I think it comes down to how utterly sweet and vunerable he was. So, open with his heart and trusting --- in this world so full of jaded and selfish creatures, that courage or just plain innocense stirs something so deep inside it is beyond a human feeling but something of a spiritual nature that is for lack of a more accepting word, 'heavenly'.

The Sheik music

I'm finding myself watching The Sheik movie often. I LOVE the music. This is the dvd that comes with The Son of The Sheik as well. I love the Son of The Sheik but the Sheik music is fantasitic, really wonderful.

Cobra is on the way

I ordered Cobra yesterday and expedited shipment so I can watch it over the weekend. I had to get the VHS because I'm having trouble finding the DVD but I will continue to keep my eyes open for it. Since I had to order VHS I can't watch it on my laptop like I normally do (and sometimes (ok quite often) at work.
I'm really looking forward to this movie since I have read it is a favorite for many. I'm sure it'll be wonderful.
I'll buy Beyond Rocks next since that'll be available here in about a week.

Don Juan on TCM

I'm watching it and can't help but think that Rudy should have played this role since in all due respect he was the real McCoy when it came to eing a Don Juan. Also, with the knowledge that this movie appeared the same year and month (as TCM reported it was August of 1926 this movie came out) of his death is equally of interest to me.
As I watch John Barrymore play out the role, whom I have nothing against (or for), I can't help but see Rudy, where he should have been if Natasha didn't throw his career off track. And although I can "miss" that he didn't have this opportunity as it would have surely been his if he continued on his path to glory, I can't help but think Natasha had some credence in her belief the movies could cheapen the art of movie making. I mean just look around today. It's as if her vain battle, belief, instinct was never even a threat to the trite, predictable, and cheap plots that churn out now every year and with the same hype that bores me to tears. No wonder I have found myself loving the silents. At least back then there was some art, originality and creativity going into the plots when now we just have the same basic, bone structure coming out like clockwork.
I rarely go see movies of today because I find them very boring and overly thought out, rehearsed. It's such a shame to see such a wonderful opportunity as movie making to produce art to usually just produce more of the same for the almighty buck.

Married Virgin

I received this movie today after all and was so glad to get it. It was a thrill to see Rudy in performances (his stint in Eyes of Youth is on the DVD as well) prior to the his more famous hits. The movie itself was primitive which considering what a novelty they were at the time is understandable.
